I am a Geophysicist by profession and an avid Zen doodler by hobby. I was drawn to this beautiful form of art by its simplicity and its peaceful impact on the mind. With a busy hustling life running at its full pace, I found my escape in the form of intricate Zen patterns . What started as a hobby has become a passion now and it has become a part of my routine life. I love experimenting with colours to create both contemporary and traditional Zen Inspired Artwork (commonly known as ZIA). I strongly believe in the core values of this form of art which is to enjoy the process and not to worry about the outcome. Just like the body dances to the sound of music, my mind dances to Zen.

Zen Art is a pattern based artwork which focuses on relaxing the mind. It involves the use of structured patterns which are inspired by the geometry of nature. In Zen Art, no stroke is right or wrong and it is focused on the process of allowing the mind to sit back and relax while you doodle away your stress. The focus of this session to learn some original Zen Art patterns and use them to create a piece of our own Zen Tile.

Workshop Specific Details

  • Participants must have:
    • White artist grade smooth 160-200gsm paper, cut out in triangles of dimensions 9cm x 9cm x 9cm;
    • Sakura black micron pen 01 (Alternative: any fine-tipped black pen);
    • Sakura black micron pen 08 (Alternative: black sketch pen);
    • A4 paper sheet;
    • Pencil;
    • Paper Stump for blending (Alternative: ear bud);
    • Eraser;
    • Sharpener;

Agenda

  • Brief Introduction to tangle artwork;
  • Core technique used in line and pattern artwork;
  • Tangling 4 original zen patterns in black and white;
    • This is a beginner’s workshop which is focused on creating the authentic form of Zen Art which is originally done using black pens on white paper;
  • Shading the zen patterns: understanding the concept of light & shadows;
  • Create your own tangle tile by unifying the individual patterns learnt;

Other Important Points

  • The image used in promotions and workshop details cover is for representation and may or may not be the exact work taught in the workshop. In the case of arts or crafts workshops, the image used is of an original work created by the instructor unless specifically stated;
  • Participants under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian nearby to help them out if needed;
  • You will require a laptop with a functional microphone and webcam to join the webinar. If you intend to join on your mobile, you will need to download the free Google Meet app;
  • You must have a good WiFi speed of at least 5 Mbps. A 4G connection will not suffice!
  • Process: After you have purchased your ticket, you will be sent a calendar invite for the webinar within a day. This calendar invite will be sent on the same email id as you have used while purchasing the ticket. Please do remember to RSVP! On the Friday prior to the webinar, you will be added to a WhatsApp group created for the webinar to facilitate communications;
  • Please note that Bodhiroom only refunds the ticket price in case of cancellation on part of the organiser. There is no refund in case the participant is unable to attend and no possibility of re-using the ticket for another workshop;
