Learning Story – Priyanka
My love of colours, sheets, paints and paintbrushes was born in my kindergarten days and has stayed with me throughout my life. As I grew older, I participated in and won many drawing contests at school. In fact, during my teenage years I also took up my hobby semi-professionally by doing freelance artwork. Despite my interest in art I’ve never had formal training in this field. The appreciation and motivation from others has been what’s kept my passion for art burning.
At the moment, I’m based in Birmingham in the United Kingdom. I work at the Consulate General of India and I put as much determination into my work as I do in my hobby. A person reading this may wonder why I didn’t take up art professionally – the answer is relatively mundane, I was a sincere and meritorious student in school and as is the case in India I couldn’t imagine taking up art as a profession. Despite that, I’ve always had my collection of tools with me. I also try to help other self-taught artists to hone their skills whenever I can.
Although we’re in a crisis right now, there is a silver lining for me in that I’ve been able to steal more time to devote to my creative side.
