Learning Story – Nikita
Hello, I am Nikita Singh, an artist by choice. Currently, I am pursuing my second post-graduation in English literature from St. Bede’s College, Shimla.
The thought of becoming a writer came to me when I used to scribble in my diary during college lectures. My journey as a writer started by a casual nudge from a friend, who suggested that I should start sharing my thoughts on Instagram.
Soon after, I exposed myself to numerous internships to learn the nuances of writing, to reach out to a larger audience. In 2017, I joined @The North Eastern Chronicles as an intern and its sister concern @The Writer’s Nest shaped my writing career. After a lot of experimentation and courage, I started my own anthology and started building my own community under the name of @thegirlimprints.
By 2018 I started engaging closely with other writers and publishers to learn from their journey. It was also the year when I started writing for other books and magazines and contributed to more than 25 of them. In 2018, thegirlimprints published its first book ‘The Girl’, which talked about girl children’s education through art and writing. It also gave me the purpose to support other girls to improve their lives by learning about their basic ‘Right to Education’.
Art has always been a stress buster for me. It has given me an opportunity to understand others, particularly issues about women. With time, I also started exploring different art forms and started doodling and painting. Today I love to doodle, explore photography, write my heart out, and more so to advocate women’s ‘Right to Education’.
Many people have played a constructive role in my journey. Two of my friends, Dhruv and Ananya from @Indiantaleways motivated me to try my best and improve my writing skills. My brother’s active criticism and support have also helped me to carve my way ahead.
This journey has made me live my life as a whole. What I wish to do is to pen down my life experiences and share all that with the world. I especially want to reach out to as many women as possible and tell them that if they set their heart on anything, they can achieve it with flying colors. Hail women power!
