Warli art is a form of tribal/ folk art which hails from the North Sahyadri Range, Maharashtra, India and it is still practised today in the area. This form of tribal art dates back in 10th-century A.D. but was not recognised until the 1970s. It is one of the finest examples of folk art in India. It is basically created by tribal people using local colours like geru for red, cow dung and mehandi for green and a mixture of rice paste and water for white. This art form uses a few basic geometric shapes such as lines, circles, triangles and square and with the help of the same, the whole painting is created. The themes are generally related to activities like festivals, harvest, folk story, celebration, a temple marriage, etc.
